When to Buy a Laptop
May 29, 2023 By Triston Martin

Consumer Reports recommends April and May as good months to purchase a laptop, alongside September. If you're searching for a deal on a used car, some experts recommend starting your search in the spring.

Others argue that the best times to buy a laptop are around the holidays or the beginning of the school year. According to several specialists, one of the most significant periods to buy a laptop is at the end of July or the beginning of August. Between the last week of November and the last week of December, you may also be able to find an affordable laptop.

However, it's important to remember that buying a new laptop at the right time of year might be challenging due to price fluctuations. And it all depends on your needs. You might be keeping an eye out for a specific PC discount. However, the manufacturer cannot discount any of its products for a given year. Companies sometimes pull it off shelves even when there is no sale on an older model.

Sale Times for Laptops

The Black Friday sales period typically begins a few days before Thanksgiving. It runs through the Sunday after Thanksgiving, while the Cyber Monday sales period typically begins the Monday after Thanksgiving. There are also many laptop sales throughout the following seasons of the year:

1. Mother's Day

During the weeks leading up to Mother's Day, several retailers offer discounts on netbooks and other budget PCs, making it possible to get Mom a suitable gift without breaking the bank.

2. Independence Day

A brilliant time to buy a laptop is around the Fourth of July or the weekend immediately after when many people will be off work and ready to shop.

3. Veteran's Day

Veterans can save a lot of money on Veteran's Day thanks to regular sales and special discounts offered by various stores. Those who aren't veterans can still save a ton of money.

4. Memorial Day

This time of year is also excellent for purchasing laptops, despite being an old chestnut. Many different laptops are on sale this Memorial Day, so you may get what you need.

Great laptop deals can also be found during other seasons of the year. These seasons represent peak demand for laptop purchases. Laptop deals can also be found during Amazon's Prime Day. You can get money back from your purchase using "Ebates" or electronic rebates.

What to Consider for Choosing a New Laptop?

Do your homework before heading to the store to get a new laptop. You'll need to prioritize where to look and what to seek for. Can you describe the ideal laptop for you? Do you care about screen resolution or size? Which, longer battery life or portability, is more important for your laptop?

Keep an eye out for sales and discounts once you've decided on a laptop to buy. If cost is your primary concern, shopping for the best deal is brilliant. Using a tool that monitors pricing changes over time can be helpful. Know what you're getting into if you choose the cheapest laptop available. It may need to be replaced in a few years.

Last but not least, make sure the laptop works well before buying it. When you get your new laptop home, you don't want to discover that it doesn't have enough USB connections or that the keyboard is too small.

When To Buy A Laptop At A Discount And Where To Look For Sales

Laptop prices are discounted during winter since businesses seek to create room for new stock. For instance, I saved $300 off the list price of my go-to laptop during Black Friday last year by purchasing it on sale. This is due to the fact that retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target frequently lower prices on devices to clear out outdated stock.

This also means that laptop prices tend to be lower during the winter months. You can save the most significant money if you shop around before purchasing. The biggest bargains on electronics are typically offered during the biggest Buy's Boxing Week sale, which is happening right now.

The end of summer signals the beginning of "back to school" sales at most stores. Computers are often discounted by $100–$200 during these events. High-end laptops (such as the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro) can be had for meager costs during this time of year. For instance, Best Buy discounted the MacBook Air to $799 during the last round of back-to-school sales. Most stores sell this laptop for around $1,000, so you save a lot of money!
